XBundle – Our Story

XBundle was originally created by Robert Onslow, an IP/IT barrister at 8 New Square Chambers, who became increasingly frustrated with the growing size of paper bundles. He developed an innovative electronic bundles and trial presentation software. Sadly, Robert passed away in 2016, but his vision for XBundle lives on.

Today, XBundle continues to develop and implement advanced practical solutions for leading law firms, corporations and government organisations. The philosophy behind XBundle remains the same: “If it not as good as paper, then you are right to reject it.”

 – Electronic bundles

XBundle takes pride in creating court compliant, high quality, and reliable bundles. We believe that every bundle should be submitted right first time, with zero margin for errors! We are always here to support our clients.

• XBundle:: Create – Licence and Software

We have our own unique software, XBundle::Create, which gives you the ability to create your own electronic bundle. The software can create instant indexes, hyperlinks and bookmarks. You will also be able to edit the bundle, make amendments, add private or public annotations on the fly and the bundle will update itself. This includes the pagination, hyperlinks, OCR, formatting, bookmarks and page labelling.

You can also use XBundle::Create as a hosting platform. You will be able to view all your ‘active’ matters on the platform and make necessary edits.

The XBundle trial presentation feature enables you to display and present your finalised bundle to the court – all from the same platform. Alternatively, you’ll be able to export the bundle into one compiled PDF.

Our simple and innovative pricing model is easy to understand and supports direct disbursements to clients. For £350 per party per month you will get full access to XBundle::Create. This is a fixed cost. You will have unlimited users, downloads and uploads included in that price.  We appreciate that adapting to new or changing software can be a stressful time for our clients. As such, we offer a discount of 20% on your first 3 months.

• XBundle:: Create – Hybrid Service

We also offer our skills and expertise as a managed service on a hybrid basis. This means that you will get all the benefit from XBundle::Create and the XBundle team will assist you with your electronic bundle at a fixed rate of £195 per 600 pages.

• Full Managed Service – XBundle Team

Alternatively, you may wish to take the full managed service route. For a fixed price of £195 per 600 pages the XBundle team can create you a court complaint electronic bundle. Provided that you have a sufficient index, we’ll be able to collect collate and combine your bundle.

The benefit of selecting this package is that XBundle will take full responsibility over your bundle. This includes:

• Hyperlinked index
• Pagination and page labelling
• Custom bookmarks
• OCR
• Formatting
• Any edits (including edits to PDFs)
• Amendments (late insertions and removing documents)
• Dealing with non-PDFs documents.

We provide access to the finalised bundle set on our own cloud data room which allows multiple users to access, view or download the bundles.

 – Electronic Presentation of Evidence (EPE)

As well as assisting with assembling and delivering trial bundles, XBundle understand the need for proceedings to run efficiently, without interpretations or delays.

Leading law firms and chambers rely on XBundle to remove the technology burden from their clients, leaving them to focus on the legal and procedural aspects of the matter.

From the first CMC to the judgment, our tailored solution, managed by our technical support team, provides an efficient and seamless path from trial preparation to the hearing for parties, counsel and the judge.  Whether in-person, remote or hybrid hearings, we act as a neutral third party and offer a fully managed solution for hearings of any size.

As a standard, we provide onsite technical support to ensure hearings run without technical disruptions or delays. If necessary, we also provide page turner display.

We work closely with our clients. Whether the client needs help with EPE, virtual hearing management, or support with technical delivery, our dedicated team are always here to help.

We are also able to provide margin cross-references at an additional cost at £3.50 per reference. The final bundle will be available for 14 days on XBundle data room – free of charge.

There will be a monthly charge of £30 per matter after the expiry time for continued view and download access.

 – Transcription 

XBundle can provide a full Transcription Services including Same-Day or Real-time transcription for in court and remote hearings.

Our experienced and highly qualified team can provide onsite transcription and can attend anywhere in the UK and Internationally.

We can organise a stenographer to attend if required.

XBundle charge £950 for Same-Day transcripts. For Real-time transcripts we charge £900 per day and £115 per connection.

 – e-Disclosure

Paragraph 9.6 of CPR PD51U (incorporated into CPR PD57AD, from 1^st October 2022) confirms that the parties should seek to reduce the burden and cost of the disclosure exercise and ways of doing this can include the use of:

“(3)(a) software or analytical tools, including technology assisted review software and techniques; and

(b) coding strategies, including to reduce duplication”.

The explanatory note to Section 2 of the Disclosure Review Document also provides that parties should use a technology assisted review to conduct a proportionate review of the data set.

As a result, electronic disclosure must now be considered in any matter with electronic stored information or other documentation.
